The February meeting was held on 2/16/13. Kiley Auten presented a protection program called CrashPlan. This plan can back up any business or home system and holds up to 10G of information. There are several plans to meet several different levels of security. This starts as a full back up of the system, then is incremental from there.

Restoring your system is easy as well. You can restore at anytime. You can choose which files you want to restore or the full system. You can also restore to a new computer in case of theft or fire.

The business version complies to the HIPPA laws and all financial laws. There are limitations for backups and restoring, but basically they are the same as the home versions. It can be backed up at specified times or automatically every 15 minutes. Files and folders can be deleted or archived. USB drives are backed up first, then other computers.

The dashboard can be accessed from your computer or remotely. You can get information on each computer covered in the plan. You can request support from the dashboard. This has step by step instructions with screenshots and details on how to fix or set up.

January 2013 Meeting

I'm sorry this is so late. I have been very busy.

The January 2013 meeting had Mike Beltran talking about the Managed Services Products, specifically, the Cloud Platform. Mike took us through a few of the many features of this program. It will allow you to manage and service your networks, even remotely. This program will allow you to configure settings, set updates, and create and work on trouble tickets on the entire network.

Some of the features include: Settings, System Log, Service Modules, Alerts Categories and Schedules and Policy Sets and Modules. Their Cisco router can also be remotely adjusted if necessary. It will also allow you to email service tickets to technicians at any time.

This cloud platform will also allow you to see what printers are working, off line, levels of ink and even paper jams. This would really help if you notice a problem before any kind of ticket or phone call comes in. Talk about being proactive!

With the ease of use for this program, it is easy to see why it is gaining in popularity. The capability to configure and troubleshoot firewalls, network services, file servers, email servers and backups makes this a real contender in the Networking world.

Thank you, Mike, for showing us what this can do!!

The next AITP Meeting will be Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 1pm at ITT Technical Institute. When I find out what the topic will be, I will post it.

See you there!

January Meeting

The January 2013 meeting will be Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1pm.

The December 2012 meeting was just installing Server 2012. But there were issues (hiccups) during the installation for several members, so nothing was really discussed.

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Our December AITP meeting will be on the 15th of December 2012,
from 12:45 to 2 PM.

We will revisit Windows Server 2012

Monday, December 3, 2012

I am very sorry this has taken me so long to get this posted. I've have family issues that wouldn't allow me to get this.

Our November 17, 2012 meeting was a lesson in adding a hard drive to a computer that was purchased from ITT. One of the issues was the need for the proper cable to attach the hard drive to the motherboard. Mark McCoy showed us what we needed to watch for and then got the hard drive installed.

This was a very short meeting. Thank you Mark McCoy for your time!!!
