Sorry this is so late - lots of stuff going on right now.

The April meeting was held on April 20, 2013.

Jered Kuhfahl went to the InfoTech seminars that were held last month. He had several things to say about it. He also said that this seminar wasn't as good as past ones.

One of the topics was SharePoint -10 Things You Don't Use.  One of these is that you can tag documents. There is also the ability to set permissions, manage meta-data, and create/use a calendar. There is also Conditional Routing. They mentioned that this is cloud-based storage. This is not new. Many of us know quite a bit about this topic.

Mobile use had an estimated 1.3 billion devices currently online. Management of these devices is a big concern for businesses, as is the security of these devices. Unfortunately, these businesses who have allowed employees to connect to their servers, also have the right and ability to wipe those devices if they think their security is in jeopardy. This could also include your own personal photos, apps and personal documents. Most of these use Windows 7 or Windows 8. Most of the apps are free that can be used for business purposes, but again, you have to be aware of security. (Maybe look into an antivirus program and a better firewall?) This ability to use your own device is called BYOD - Bring Your Own Device. Just be aware of the risks to your personal information. You should weigh the pros and cons before making this decision.

The rest of the meeting was spent just generally talking about different updates to currently used programs and new programs. In all, it was quite entertaining!!!

The next AITP Meeting will be May 18, 2013. The topic will be announced at a later date.
